Almost one year after the beginning of the previous sequence, the seismicity at El Hierro (Canary Islands, Spain), is high above the background level again. From June 25th until July 6th, 438 earthquakes larger than M2.5 (90 M3 and two M4 earthquakes) have been reported by the EMSC in the region of El Hierro. More detailed info available on IGN web site.
The first sequence which started on July 16th, 2011 and lasted 4 months, corresponded to submarine volcanic activity at El Hierro. Then the seismic activity remained low during 7 months. On June 25th, 2012, the seismic activity increased again with most of the earthquake located at a depth of 20 km.
